In 2016, John and Nona bought a house in Pretoria and renamed it, Bethany. It all started with a dream and a desire to have a place where missionaries could feel welcome and at home, while in between seasons, looking for new purpose
or during transition. Bethany was a village just outside of Jerusalem, where Jesus would go to spend time with his close friends Lazarus, Martha and Mary.
It became a place of refuge for himself and his disciples, as they went from place to place, spreading Jesus' message.
This is the kind of place they wanted for people, a place to rest.

I stayed at Bethany during the season just befor I got married. As I prepared for my wedding, it offered me rest and respite between working and planning. Carlos and Rita always made sure to assist with any problems I had and allowed me to host my bridal shower on the property.
I truly enjoyed my stay at Bethany. It is only a short walking distance to the Spar and the Grove is not too far away. The property is quiet and allows for moments of rest and tranquility. I was also able to work from home without any problems.
I was one of the long-term rentals at Bethany and I really enjoyed living there. The house is a place of refuge in the bustle of Pretoria. Carlos and Rita are always willing to help with any issues and made my stay there great. The rooms are cosy and fit my needs well.
